Magnetic Field from Current Element

Magnetic Field from Current Element

Example 4.5: Magnetic Field Calculation

This simulation demonstrates the magnetic field produced by a current element at a point on the y-axis.

x (current element)
y (0.5 m)
z (field direction)
Current (I): 10 A
Element length (Δx): 1 cm
Distance (y): 0.5 m
Magnetic field (dB): 0 T

Biot-Savart Law Calculation

|dB| = (μ₀/4π) × (I dl sinθ)/r²
μ₀/4π = 10⁻⁷ Tm/A, θ = 90°, sinθ = 1
|dB| = (10⁻⁷ × 10 × 10⁻²)/(0.5)²
|dB| = 4 × 10⁻⁸ T (in +z direction)

Right-Hand Rule

Point thumb in current direction (x), fingers toward point (y), palm faces field direction (+z).

For dl × r = Δx i × y j = yΔx k
