Semi-Circular Current Magnetic Field

Semi-Circular Current Magnetic Field

Example 4.6: Magnetic Field of Bent Wire

This simulation demonstrates the magnetic field at the center of a semi-circular current-carrying wire.

Scenario (a)
Scenario (b)
Current (I): 12 A
Radius (r): 2.0 cm
Magnetic field (B): 0 T

Key Concepts

(a) Straight segments: dl × r = 0 → No contribution
(b) Semi-circle: B = ½ × (μ₀I/2R) = 1.9 × 10⁻⁴ T (into plane)
(c) Opposite bend: Same magnitude, opposite direction
👆

Right-Hand Rule

Curl fingers in current direction, thumb points in field direction (into plane for scenario a, out of plane for scenario b).
